Giedel Blumenfeld, née Gerson Moses

The website Landesgeschichtliches Informationssystem Hessen – Jüdische Grabstätten (Jewish cemeteries) provides the first pictures for this history of the Blumenfeld family in Momberg – even if these pictures are “only” pictures of gravestones. My 4rd great-grandmother, Giedel Blumenfeld, was interred in the Jewish Cemetery in Neustadt, where the Jews from Momberg were buried until Momberg opened its own cemetery.1

Giedel was born around 1754. The names of her parents are not known for certain.2 She was married to Abraham Katz, with whom she had six children: Moses (1778-1846), Sprinz (1783-1863), Breine (1784-), Hanna (1788-1844), Meier (1795-1879), and my 3rd great-grandfather Jakob (1800-1849). She died at age 80 on the 19th of July 1834.3 (Translation of the Hebrew text below the illustration.)
